Web design for Gippsland small business

A website that wins you the quote, instead of losing it to the flashier mob down the highway.

Most small businesses in Gippsland don’t need a fancy website with all the bells. They need one that loads fast, works on a phone, says plainly what you do and where, and doesn’t send a ready-to-buy customer straight to the competitor who looked more professional online. What a lot of them have instead is a site built years ago that quietly costs them work every week.

That’s what I fix. I’m Matt, I run Your Mate Agency out of Mallacoota, and I build websites for small businesses across Gippsland and East Gippsland, from Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance to Sale and Traralgon.

What a small business website actually needs

Web design gets sold as a look, and the look does matter. But for a small business the site earns its keep on four plainer things first. It has to load fast, because a slow site loses people before it finishes opening. It has to work on a phone, because that’s where most of your customers are searching from.

It has to say what you do and the towns you cover in the first few seconds, so nobody has to guess. And it has to be findable on Google, which is a job that starts with how the site is built, not something you bolt on later. Get those right and a plain, tidy site beats a flashy one that hides your phone number every day of the week.

The site that’s quietly costing you work

An old website doesn’t announce itself. Nobody rings to tell you they clicked off because it took too long to load, or because it looked dodgy on their phone, or because they couldn’t find your number. They just call the next business on the list. That’s the quiet cost, and outside the cities it adds up faster than people think.

The flip side is that the bar around here is low, which is good news for you. Half the businesses in any Gippsland town have a website that hasn’t been touched in years. Getting the basics right properly is enough to look like the safe choice, and the safe choice is the one that gets the call.

What you get in a build

Every website I build for a small business covers the same foundations, whether it’s a one-page site for a sole trader or a bigger job with online bookings.

  • A mobile-first build that loads fast and reads well on the phone people actually search from.
  • Clear pages that say what you do, the towns you serve and how to get in touch, without the waffle.
  • An easy way for a customer to call, message or book you, so an interested person never hits a dead end.
  • The SEO foundations baked in from the start, so the site is set up to be found for local searches.
  • A setup you can actually update yourself, or hand back to me, without needing a developer on standby.

What it doesn’t come with is a mystery invoice. There’s no single template price because a sole trader’s one-pager and a bookings site aren’t the same job, but the figures are published and you’ll know the number before you commit.

How I build your site

No drawn-out agency process with ten meetings. Here’s the whole thing, start to finish.

  1. We have a chat about what your business does, who you’re after and what the site needs to actually achieve. Thirty minutes, no jargon.
  2. I map out the pages and get the words and photos sorted, using what you’ve got and filling the gaps, so the site says the right thing before it looks like anything.
  3. I build it mobile-first, set up the SEO foundations and wire in the contact, booking or enquiry side so it’s ready to bring in work, not just sit there.
  4. We go through it together, I make the changes, and once you’re happy it goes live. Then I show you how to keep it current, or keep looking after it myself if that’s easier.

Honestly, Matt's a gem. New Website with online bookings so I can throw away my old paper and pen setup. No more phone calls after business hours and text message back and forth to book clients in. 5 stars from me. Oh and he answers his phone, not someone else who I have to explain things to repeatedly.

What a website costs

My prices are published, with no sales call needed to see a number. A small one-page site and a full build with bookings sit at different figures, all of them real and on the page, with no lock-in contracts. Have a look and see where your job lands.

Questions I get asked

How much does a small business website cost?

It depends on the size of the job, so I’ve published the figures rather than make you ring to find out. A simple one-page site for a sole trader sits at one price, a bigger build with online bookings at another. Either way you see the number before you commit, with no lock-in contract. The pricing page has the detail.

Do you only work with businesses in Mallacoota?

No. I’m based in Mallacoota, but I build websites for small businesses right across Gippsland and East Gippsland, from Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance to Sale and Traralgon, and the odd one further afield. A website works the same wherever your customers are, so where you’re based isn’t a problem.

Will my website actually show up on Google?

A website on its own isn’t a ranking, but it’s the foundation, and I build every site with the local SEO basics in place from the start rather than bolted on later. Getting found for searches like “plumber bairnsdale” is its own ongoing job, and if you want that handled too I do local SEO as a separate service. I’ll tell you honestly what the site alone will and won’t do.

Can I update the website myself once it’s built?

Yes. I set the site up so you can change your hours, prices, photos and words yourself without needing a developer, and I show you how. If you’d rather not touch it, you can hand the small stuff back to me. Plenty of clients do a bit of both.

I already have a website. Do I need a whole new one?

Not always. Sometimes an existing site just needs a tidy-up, a speed fix or a mobile pass rather than a full rebuild, and I’ll tell you straight if that’s your situation instead of selling you a job you don’t need. If the bones are sound we work with them. If they’re not, a fresh build is usually cheaper than fighting an old one.

How long does it take to build?

A straightforward small business site is usually a couple of weeks once I’ve got your words and photos, and the words and photos are the part that tends to hold things up rather than the build. A bigger job with bookings or extra pages takes longer. I’ll give you a real timeframe up front, not a vague “soon”.

Or just have a chat

Thirty minutes on the phone and I’ll tell you straight what your site needs and roughly what it’d cost. If the honest answer is that a tidy-up beats a rebuild, you’ll hear that too. You talk to me, not a call centre.
