About Matt — Web Developer in Gippsland

Web developer based in Mallacoota,
building for businesses across Gippsland.

I'm Matt. I run Your Mate Agency from Mallacoota, a small town on the far east coast of Victoria. I build websites and digital systems for small businesses across Gippsland and regional Victoria.

I've worked in tech for years, but I got tired of the corporate world. The endless meetings, the buzzwords, the projects that never seemed to help anyone who actually needed it. So I moved to regional Victoria and started helping the businesses that make these towns work.

Now I spend my days building websites for tradies, cafes, retail shops, and service businesses. Real businesses run by real people who just want something that works.

I chose to focus on regional Victoria because that's where I live and that's what I understand. I know what it's like when the nearest city agency quotes $15,000 for a website that could be done for $4,000. I know the frustration of getting generic advice that doesn't account for how different business is outside the metro bubble.

Big agencies treat regional businesses like an afterthought. I treat them like the backbone of their communities, because that's what they are. The plumber in Bairnsdale, the cafe in Lakes Entrance, the accountant in Sale — these businesses matter to the people who live here.

When you work with me, you're working with someone who gets it. Someone who answers the phone. Someone who's not going to disappear after launch.

I don't do jargon. When I explain something, you'll actually understand it. When I quote a price, that's the price. When I say I'll deliver something, I deliver it.

Every project starts with a conversation. I need to understand your business before I can build something useful for it. What do you actually need? Who are your customers? What's working and what isn't? Half the battle is asking the right questions.

I build custom solutions, but I work efficiently. I'm not going to spend your money on unnecessary features or drag out a project to pad the invoice. You get what you need, built properly, at a fair price. That's it. You can read more about what I offer on my services page.

I believe in building what businesses actually need, not what makes me the most money. That's why I'll sometimes tell people to use a DIY builder instead of hiring me. If that's genuinely the right call for their situation, I'd rather be honest than take their money for something they don't need.

I believe small businesses deserve better than templates and cookie-cutter solutions. Every business is different, and your website should reflect that. Not every business needs custom development, but every business deserves someone who'll take the time to understand what they actually need.

And I believe in sticking around. The website is just the start. When something breaks, when you want to add something new, when you have a question at 4pm on a Friday — I'm here. That's what "Your Mate" means.

If you've got a project in mind, or you just want to pick my brain about whether a website makes sense for your business, get in touch. No pressure, no sales pitch. Just a conversation about what you need and whether I'm the right person to help.
