Small business website packages

One real number, not three vague quotes and a sales call.

Ring three web designers about a small business website and you’ll get three numbers that don’t resemble each other, and not one of them will tell you plainly what’s in the job. Most won’t put a figure in writing at all until they’ve had you on a couple of calls. You end up choosing between quotes without knowing what you’re actually comparing.

I do it the other way round. I’m Matt, I run Your Mate Agency out of Mallacoota, and my prices are published where you can read them without ringing anyone. Here’s what a small business website costs with me, and exactly what lands in it.

The price, up front

$3,000+plus GST, to rebuild an existing site. A redesign or a build from scratch goes up from there.

That’s the headline, and there’s no package table under it because I don’t sell packages. The number I quote before we start is the number you pay. No lock-in contract, and nothing turns up on the final invoice that we didn’t talk about at the beginning.

If your job sits above or below that figure, you’ll hear it on the first call rather than after you’ve committed. My full price list puts the websites figure next to everything else I do, so you can see the lot in one place.

What you’re actually buying

Every website I build covers the same foundations, whether it’s a one-page site for a sole trader or a bigger job with online bookings. None of it is an optional extra you get upsold later.

  • A mobile-first build that loads fast, because most of your customers are looking you up on a phone.
  • Pages that say what you do, where you do it and how to reach you, without making anyone hunt for it.
  • A working way to call, message or book you, so an interested customer never hits a dead end.
  • The local SEO foundations built in from the start rather than bolted on after the fact.
  • A site you can update yourself, with me showing you how, or hand back to me if you’d rather not.

The part most quotes leave out is the words and the photos. I sort those with you as part of the job, using what you’ve got and filling the gaps, because a tidy site that says the wrong thing still loses you the work.

Why there’s no bronze, silver and gold

Tier tables look helpful and mostly aren’t. The cheapest column is there to get you through the door, and the things a small business genuinely needs, an enquiry form that works, pages that load quickly, being findable in your own town, have a habit of sitting in the columns further right. The advertised low price is rarely the price anyone ends up paying.

A sole trader’s one-pager and a bookings site aren’t the same job, so I price the job in front of me instead of sorting you into a column. You get one number for the work we’ve actually agreed on, and if I reckon you need less than you came in asking for, I’ll say so.

What moves the number

Four things account for nearly all the difference between a straightforward build and a dearer one.

  1. How many pages you need. A sole trader with one service and one town is a smaller job than a business with six services and a page for each.
  2. Whether customers need to book or pay on the site. Wiring that up properly is real work, and it’s the biggest single jump in price.
  3. Whether you’re selling products online. A shop with a catalogue, postage and stock is a different animal to a site that sends people to the phone.
  4. How much of the words and photos already exist. Turn up with decent photos and a clear idea of what you want to say and the job moves faster.

Awesome!! had a previous website that was sub par, went to Matt and asked if he could fix it up, he went above and beyond. Can ring and he is always ready to help with any queries, highly recommended !!!

What the website won’t do on its own

A new site isn’t a Google ranking. It’s the foundation a ranking gets built on, and I set every build up properly for local search, but climbing for something like “plumber bairnsdale” is ongoing work rather than a one-off.

That’s a separate service with its own published price, so you’re never quietly paying for it inside a website quote. If getting found is the real goal rather than the site itself, read how the local SEO side works before you spend anything on a rebuild.

Where I work from

I’m in Mallacoota, right on the far east corner of Victoria, and a fair chunk of my clients are small businesses across Gippsland and East Gippsland. The rest are scattered further afield, because a website gets built the same wherever you are. Most of the job happens on the phone and over email either way.

Questions I get asked

How much does a small business website cost in Australia?

Mine start at $3,000 plus GST to rebuild an existing site, and a redesign or a fresh build goes up from there depending on the size of the job. I publish the figure rather than make you ring for it, and what I quote before we start is what you pay, with no lock-in contract. The pricing page lists it alongside everything else I do.

Is there a cheaper package for a brand new business?

There’s no budget tier, because the corners you’d have to cut to reach one are the corners that cost you work later. What I can do is scope the job down honestly: fewer pages, no bookings, your own photos. That brings the number down because it’s genuinely a smaller job, not a worse version of the same site.

What is actually included in the price?

The build itself, the words and structure sorted out with you, a mobile-first layout, the contact or booking side wired up, the local SEO foundations, and me walking you through how to update it. If anything sits outside that for your particular job, you’ll hear about it before we start rather than on the final invoice.

How long does a small business website take to build?

A straightforward site is usually a couple of weeks once I’ve got your words and photos, and it’s the words and photos that tend to hold things up rather than the build. A bigger job with bookings or a shop takes longer. You get a real timeframe up front instead of a vague “soon”.

I already have a website. Do I need a whole new one?

Not always. Sometimes an existing site just wants a speed fix, a mobile pass or a tidy-up of the words, and that’s a much smaller job than a rebuild. I’ll tell you straight which one you’re looking at instead of selling you a rebuild you don’t need.

Do I have to be in Gippsland to work with you?

No. I’m based in Mallacoota and plenty of my clients are around Gippsland and East Gippsland, but a website gets built the same wherever your business is. Most of the work happens on the phone and over email whether you’re up the road or interstate.

Not sure where your job lands?

Thirty minutes on the phone and I’ll give you a real figure for your site, not a range with a meeting attached. If the honest answer is that your current site wants a tidy-up rather than a rebuild, you’ll hear that instead. You talk to me, not a call centre.
