Digital marketing for Gippsland
One local agency for your website, your Google ranking and the systems behind them.
Most Gippsland businesses don’t need five different agencies and a marketing budget the size of a ute. They need to show up when a local searches, a website that doesn’t embarrass them, and someone who picks up the phone. What they usually get instead is a Melbourne agency that’s never been past Traralgon, treating them as account number four thousand.
That’s the gap I fill. I’m Matt, I run Your Mate Agency out of Mallacoota, and I do digital marketing for businesses across Gippsland and East Gippsland: websites, local SEO, Google Business Profiles and the automation that keeps them ticking over.
What a digital marketing agency actually does
“Digital marketing” is a phrase that hides more than it explains, so here’s the plain version. For a regional business it comes down to four things that actually move the needle, and a lot of noise that doesn’t.
First, a website that loads fast, says plainly what you do and where, and works on the phone people actually search from. Second, local SEO, so when someone types “electrician bairnsdale” or “cafe lakes entrance” you’re the one they find, not the business three towns over. Third, your Google Business Profile, the free listing with the map and the reviews that most businesses set up once in 2018 and never touched again. Fourth, the systems and automation that keep reviews coming in and content going out without you thinking about it.
The noise is everything else: the daily social posts nobody reads, the “brand strategy” deck, the vanity dashboard with forty numbers and no phone calls. I’d rather get the four things above working and leave the noise to the agencies that bill by the hour.
Why local actually matters here
A marketing agency that understands Gippsland is worth more than a bigger one that doesn’t. Not for the sentiment, for the results. The searches your customers type, the towns they’ll drive between, the difference between a Mallacoota tourist season and a Sale trade run: that’s the context that decides where your money goes, and it’s hard to fake from a CBD office.
Being here also means the competition is beatable. Outside the cities, half the businesses in any town have a website that hasn’t been updated in years and a Google listing with the wrong hours. Doing the basics properly is a low bar with a big payoff, and it’s the same reason a small local shop can outrank a national chain for the searches that matter in your town.
What I actually do, and how it works
I start by finding out where you stand: what you rank for now, what your website and listing are doing, and where the easy wins are. Then I fix the foundations, build what’s missing, and set up the systems that keep it running. Whether you’re a tradie, a motel, a cafe or a real estate office, the specifics differ but the playbook doesn’t.
And this is the part other agencies won’t offer: I explain it as we go, in plain English, so you understand what you’re paying for. My SEO program runs six months and ends with a handover, because the goal is that you don’t need me forever. No lock-in contracts. If you’d rather keep me on after that, there’s a small monthly option, but that’s your call, not a trap.
Fair question: who have you done this for?
Instead of inventing numbers or showing you screenshots of results that never happened, here’s the honest answer. I work with real Gippsland businesses like Hammond Properties in Mallacoota, Scallywags and Studio @ 65: local operators getting found for the searches that bring them work.
The clearest proof, though, is the page you’re reading. I run Your Mate Agency the same way I’d run yours, and the exact thing that happens to every busy owner happened to me: once the client work stacked up, I had no time left to market myself. So I built systems that do most of it for me. My listing stays active, my reviews grow, my site publishes pages that match what people search, and you found this one because those systems put it in front of you. That’s the product, demonstrating itself.
Sort these before you hire any agency
I mean that. Here’s an afternoon of free work that puts you ahead of half the businesses in your town, whether you end up hiring me or not.
- Claim and verify your Google Business Profile. Search your business name, click “Own this business?” and follow the prompts. This one listing does more for a local business than most paid campaigns.
- Fix your hours, phone number and website link. If any of them are wrong or point nowhere, that’s costing you customers today, before you spend a cent on marketing.
- Add at least ten real photos to your listing. Your actual shopfront, jobs, food or team beats a stock photo every time, both for Google and for the person deciding whether to call.
- Open your website on your phone. If it’s slow, hard to read, or you can’t find your own phone number in five seconds, neither can a customer.
- Get your Google review link and text it to your last five happy customers. One line does it: “if you were happy, a quick Google review would be a big help.”
- Search for what you sell plus your town, the way a customer would. Wherever you land in the results is your honest starting point, and usually the clearest sign of what to fix first.
Get through that list and want the rest done properly and explained as you go? That’s exactly what I’m for.
Our old website just wasn’t doing our properties justice. Matt from Your Mate Agency built us a new site that actually matches the quality of what we’re selling. Looks professional, easy to navigate, and we’ve had great feedback from clients. Highly recommend.

Are you a full digital marketing agency, or just SEO?
Full service for what a regional business actually needs: websites, local SEO, Google Business Profiles and the automation behind them. I don’t do everything a big-city agency lists on its menu, and I’ll tell you honestly when something isn’t worth your money. The point is the right work for your business, not the longest invoice.
Do you work across all of East Gippsland, or only Mallacoota?
All of Gippsland and East Gippsland. I’m based in Mallacoota, but I work with businesses from Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance to Sale and Traralgon, and the odd one further afield. Marketing works the same wherever your customers are searching, so where you are isn’t a problem.
Do you do Google Ads and social media too?
Ads can make sense for some businesses, and I’ll tell you if yours is one of them rather than sell you something I don’t run day to day. Social I treat as a support act, not the main event, because for most Gippsland businesses your Google ranking and your website bring in far more work than a daily post ever will. I’d rather be straight about that than take the retainer.
What does it cost to work with you?
My prices are published, with no sales call needed to see a number. There’s a one-off audit if you want a plan to run yourself, and ongoing programs if you want it done for you, all with real figures and no lock-in contracts. Have a look at the pricing page.
Why hire a local agency instead of a big Melbourne one?
Because context is the whole game in local marketing, and a Melbourne agency doesn’t have yours. I know the towns, the searches and the seasons, you can actually get me on the phone, and you won’t be account number four thousand. You’re not paying for a fancy office in the city either, you’re paying for the work that gets you found.
Or just have a chat
Thirty minutes on the phone and I’ll tell you straight whether marketing is even your best next move. Sometimes the honest answer is “fix your Google listing yourself this week, here’s how, don’t pay me.” You’ll get that answer if it’s true.
