Heading to Mallacoota for the Easter long weekend? Good call. This little coastal town in East Gippsland is one of Victoria's best-kept secrets — tucked between the inlet, the ocean, and the national park. Whether you're coming for a few days or the whole week, here's everything that's happening and everything you need to know.

Mallacoota Easter Market
Saturday 4th April | Lions Park | 9am – 1pm

The Easter market is on at Lions Park with local stalls, food, and plenty to browse. If you've been to a Mallacoota market before, you know the vibe — laid back, local, and worth rocking up early for.

Nanny Rae Rae will be at the market with her handmade pieces — if you want a preview of what she'll have on the day, check out her collection online.

Face Painting & Easter Photo Booth
Saturday 4th April | The Mudbrick | 9am – 1pm

One for the kids. Face painting and an Easter photo booth set up out the front of the Mudbrick. Runs alongside the market so you can do both in one lap.

Easter Saturday & Sunday, 4th & 5th April | The Mudbrick | 9am – 4pm

Scallywags Steak Night
Thursday 2nd April

Kick off the long weekend early with Steak Night at Scallywags. Then come back Friday 3rd April for meat tray raffles and happy hour — $5 beer and wine from 5pm to 6pm (Friday Only).

Far Easter 2026 Surf Festival — Saturday

Choose Your Own Adventure. Pick a decade, throw on a wig or find some other random inspo for a costume and get down to the Point.

7:00am onwards — Retro Teams Surf Comp at Bastion Point (tbc)

Walk the Tracks

Some of the best coastal walks in Victoria are right here:

  • Captain Stevenson's Point — easy loop with massive views over the inlet and ocean
  • Betka Beach — a short drive from town, great surf beach and rock pools for the kids
  • Gabo Island — if you're up for an adventure, there are boat trips out to the lighthouse. Penguins, seals, and one of the most remote lighthouses in Australia

$100 for 25 shots — includes clay targets, supervision, and use of a gun. The 25 shots can be shared amongst your group, and you can grab more ammo if you're having fun. Sessions run about 2 hours depending on group size. Participants need to be over 12 years of age. Available over the Easter holidays — organised on request, no minimum numbers.

Getting There

From Melbourne: 6 to 7 hours via Princes Highway through Lakes Entrance and Cann River, depending on stops with the little ones. The last stretch through the national park is beautiful but windy — take it easy.
From Sydney: About 6.5 hours down through Eden and the Sapphire Coast.
From Canberra: About 5 hours via Cooma and Bombala.
